Are people trying to make robots like the movie chobits?

are people going to try to make robots like human like robots? You can own them and like do stuff with them. Like that japanese company love dolls? And like the manga Absolute boyfriend. I think that would be pretty cool but you won't know whose human and whos not. lol. Is that what the japanese people or other people are trying to do?

Short answer: Yes.

In japan

the doll industry is investing huge amount of time to get realism into the dolls. It ranges from machine movement to simulate sex/blow jobs, etc.

Meanwhile the robot industry in japan is working real hard to get functional robot. To interact with your voice and they have already achieved that.

This person is japan who creates robot (srry forgot the name) is currently working on a machine for next 15 years, creating a robot brain. creating all types of interaction, putting emotion, etc.

Now no one really has taken strong initative to merge those two projects together, but as soon as the robot industry is ready is only a matter of time. Think of the $$!

It would be cool but, the day we mistake human for robot won't be in the next 50+ yrs or so.

They are not trying hard to make robots that are extremely like humans for now. You might see some developers at MIT or wherever trying it simply for appearances but robots that are built for practical uses usually wont be any higher than your waste.
