What is chobits really about?

I've read a summary about chobits on the internet.Having said that,I got the impression that chobits was about a poor guy who couldn't get a girl so 1 day he came across a pretty blonde robot.He brought her home and attempted to have sex without her consent or her with a conscious thought.In other words rape.However this could not be done due to the fact that she is a robot.Am i wrong?

Here's a pretty good summary: In the future, personal computers have developped into "Persocons", mobile computers that look like human beings. Hideki Motosuwa, a prep school student, desperately wants to buy a Persocon but cannot afford to. One day he finds a Persocon that has been thrown away and decides to keep it. When he turns on the Persocon, all she can say is "Chii" so he decides to name her that. After a while it starts to become apparent that Chii is more than an average Persocon. Having much better performance, it seems that Chii might be a "Chobit", a type of advanced Persocon rumoured to have independent thought.

Despite having some echii in it, the message it gives is pretty deep. For example here's something I read on Wiki: "The series deals with issues and ideals of virginity, and sexual intercourse in that Chi is effectively incapable of sexual intercourse (in the manga and in the series), as attempting to do so would "reset" her, so she must therefore only entrust her body to someone who cares for her well-being as opposed to a purely sexual relationship. The series also hints that Chi's particular placement of her On switch is added after Freya's death, since her father gave her "special abilities". Along with his goal to ensure all persocoms found happiness, the placement of Chi's on switch ensures that her personality will thrive only in a relationship in which she is loved without the pressure of sex."

All in all, it's a great anime and it's really work a try. It's probably one of my fav. CLAMP works. :D

You are wrong. He wanted a cyber robot, called persocom, couldn't earn one cuz he's poor, and couldn't get a girl, or get into the college that he wanted. He found a persocom at a garbage dump, and took her home. He tried to 'turn-it-on', not expecting the on switch in a place that is so sickening. He finds out that this persocom is quite different from ordinary persocom. This particular persocom that he found is called Chobits, a cyber robot that was banned from making.

This is a story of the future, where robots named Persocoms computers that look like people, 19-year-old Hideki. He really wants a Persocom for himself, but he's dirt poor, and a ronin student a person who didn't make the college cut, so is studying for the entrance exams for a year). He really wants a Persocom, and one night, finds one in a person's trash but your wronge about the last part he didnt try anything
